Video Reference
The flexible reference system in the switcher allows you
to use an Interlaced video format as the reference to
operate the switcher in a video format of the same
frequency. Choosing a progressive video format as a
reference limits you to operating the switcher only in that
same video format and frequency. For example, if you
have a 1080i 59.94Hz input reference you can operate
the switcher in 720p 59.94Hz, but not 1080i 50Hz.
However, if you have a 720p 59.94Hz input reference,
you can only operate the switcher in 720p 59.94Hz. If
you need to change frequencies, you can have multiple
input references and switch between them as needed.
Supported Reference Formats
Depending on the input reference format you use, you
will only be able to operate the switcher in certain
formats. References to 1080p 59.94Hz (A) and 1080p
50Hz (A) refer to 1080p Level A only.

Notes
1
It is not recommended that you operate the switcher in
these video formats when you are using a composite sync
(480i or 576i) reference signal. SMPTE
®
recommends
using a tri level sync reference signal for high-definition
video.
2
The 1080p 50Hz Level B and 1080p 59.94Hz Level B
video formats are only accepted by the MultiProcessor
Input and 12G MultiProcessor Input boards where they
are converted to level A automatically.
3
Only the MultiProcessor Input and 12G MultiProcessor
Input boards can process UHDTV1 UHD-2SI video
signals. Only the 12G MultiProcessor Input can process
UHDTV1 UHD-2SI (single link) at 12Gb/s.
Important:
Format conversion of Level B to A causes
a 2-line delay in the MultiProcessor Input board for
that input. All Level B inputs must be advanced by
2-lines before they come into the switcher.
The switcher allows you to use any interlaced video
format to operate the switcher in any format of the same
frequency; however, the use of 480i or 576i (Composite
Sync) reference signals for High Definition (720p, 1080i,
or 1080p) video modes is not recommended. Using a
composite sync reference signal for High Definition video
modes results in excessive jitter on the video output of
the switcher, falling outside the range specified by
SMPTE-292M. This may result in downstream equipment
being unable to properly receive these signals.
The use of composite sync reference formats is
recommended for Standard Definition video modes only,
and provides stable outputs with jitter performance in
compliance with SMPTE-259M specifications.
