the MPh signal to lower the initial modem rate
during V.34 reception. If this switch is set to “0111”,
the machine lowers the initial speed one step, for
example, from 28,800 to 26,400 bps.
This switch reduces transmission time if the
machine frequently sends PPR signals during V.34
reception.
