LEAKAGE TEST PROCEDURES - COASTAL
GENERAL
Each inflatable part of the main structure must be tested separately. All test results should be
recorded on the Coastal Elite Test Record Chart (See Table A). The structure consists of all the
chambers served by the gas inflation system. These include:
•
The left buoyancy chamber (from view of entrance), which has an installed transfer valve for
the arch tube.
•
The right buoyancy chamber (separated by a bulkhead)
•
The inflatable floor (manually inflated)
The arch-tube assembly, being mounted on the buoyancy tube will be fully inflated when the chamber
is tested; it will be therefore tested with the chamber.
INFLATABLE CHAMBERS (AIR HOLDING TEST)
Each chamber must be tested separately, but simultaneously over a period of approximately 1 hour.
1.
Using an inflation tool (Part No. 95- 41128-101) and clean, dry shop air, inflate the left buoyancy
chamber to until the pressure relief valve (PRV) opens. This will also inflate the arch-tube. (See
Fig. 1) The PRV will open at 3.0 psig MAX and produce bubbles when covered with soapy water.
Using a manometer, record the pressure (psig) upon PRV release.

Follow the same procedure in Step One to inflate the right buoyancy chamber. (See Fig. 2)
Record the pressure upon PRV release. Inflation of the right buoyancy chamber will not affect the
arch-tube.
3.
Let stand for 15min. This will allow the chambers to stabilize. Air will stop releasing from the PRV
and bubbles should disappear.
4.
Correct pressure using clean shop air to a test pressure of 2.000 +/- 0.050 psig. Using a
manometer, check the pressure in the chambers. Record the initial tube pressure

. Leave sitting for 1 hour.
5.
Inflate the floor until firm and leave sitting for 1 hour.
Note:
The floor will not be tested by means of a manometer.
