Commissioning
The recommended commissioning sequence is as follows:
1. Dockside checks:
• powering up,

• check the SeaTalk and NMEA connections,

• course computer setup,

• bleed the hydraulics - without autopilot,

• check the steering sense,
page 29
• bleed the hydraulics - with autopilot,
page 29
2. Seatrial calibration:
• swing the compass,

• align the compass heading,
page 32
• adjust heading alignment,
page 33
• Perform AutoLearn procedure,

Dockside checks
WARNING: For safe control of your boat, you MUST complete the
dockside checks before starting the initial seatrial.
With the boat safely tied up, complete the following dockside checks:
Powering up
1. When you have installed your SmartPilot system, switch on the circuit breaker, or install
the fuse.
2. If the SmartPilot controller and course computer are active, the controller will beep, dis-
playing the controller type for a few seconds then the STANDBY screen. You may see a
CALIBRATE REQUIRED message. This is displayed for a short time if either:
• the vessel type is not selected
• the compass is not calibrated
These will be calibrated later in this chapter
3. Check that the STANDBY screen displays a live compass heading.
