4.5 CONTROLLER SUB-SYSTEM
Figure 36 - GRB-200 Demodulator Controller Sub-System
The Controller Sub-system is the heart of the GRB Demodulator. It is based on a
PIC32 microcontroller running a proprietary control program.
When the GRB Demodulator powers up, the controller first loads the necessary
configuration data into the LHCP and RHCP demodulator ASICs. Next, it loads
configuration data to the Linux data processor to set up the network addresses and
various task parameters such as data types and UDP ports then starts these tasks
running.
Once the demodulator and Linux sub-systems are set up and running, the
controller provides a user interface which displays status data on a 2 line x 20
character LCD display, monitors the demodulator status for errors, monitors the
feed power and feed status, generates an XML status message once per seconds
which it forwards to the Linux sub-system and provides configuration
functionality by means of the LCD display and setup buttons. Diagnostic and
status information can also be accessed using the display and setup buttons.
Please see the operating section for more information.
