High Voltage Interface Cabinet Overview
C
AUTION
Due to the Fault exposure hazard that exists when the cabinet is opened the
following rules apply:
Q
It is not recommended to work on or come in contact with the lightning
arrestor during inclement weather. This is an extreme hazard. The
lightning arrestor is connected to the cable shield. If a lighting strike
occurs in such a manner as to energize the cable shield, this device will
have a large energy influx in a very short period of time.
When working on the CO side of the interface:
Q
Direct contact by personnel of conductors and equipment while in direct
contact of earth moisture is hazardous. Extreme care should be taken
to ensure that the rubber safety mat is not in contact with the earth in
such a manner as to allow water or any conducting material to come in
contact with personnel. Normally this would be the top surface of the
mat with the worker standing on this same surface.
Q
When the cabinet door is opened, precautions should be taken to
ensure that moisture is prevented from entering the cabinet.
Q
When necessary to work inside the opened cabinet for long periods of
time during wet weather conditions, a rain proof umbrella or tent should
be utilized. This would assist in blocking any rain or snow from entering
the cabinet.
Q
If the craftsman standing area is quite wet or saturated, it will be difficult
to utilize a rubber mat and protect personnel from fault potential
voltages. A raised platform for the mat to be placed on may be required.
