HOLD Function
As an assistance function, the HOLD function sup-
ports the driver when stopping the vehicle and driv-
ing off on steep gradients.
The vehicle is automatically secured against rolling
backward. The light indicator
on the instru-
ment cluster comes on when the HOLD function is
active.
If the driver's seat belt is unfastened and the driver's
door is opened while the HOLD function is active, the
vehicle is automatically prevented from rolling away.
WARNING
Loss of control over the
vehicle
Despite the HOLD function, responsibility for stop-
ping and starting on gradients lies with the driver.
When stopping and starting on slippery surfaces (e.
g. icy or loose substrate), assistance from the HOLD
function is not always guaranteed. The vehicle can
roll away.
e
Always adjust your driving style to the road sur-
face and the vehicle load; use the footbrake if
necessary.
If the HOLD function is not working, the driver
cannot be assisted when driving off on gradients:
e
Hold the vehicle with the footbrake.
HOLD in conjunction with a man-
ual transmission
b
b
Engine is running.
1.
Hold the vehicle securely on the gradient using
the footbrake.
2.
Depress the clutch pedal fully.
3.
Select an appropriate gear for the intended driv-
ing direction and gradient (1st gear or reverse).
4.
Release the footbrake while still holding the
clutch pedal down.
The vehicle is held on the gradient to enable
driving off and prevent the vehicle from rolling
back.
5.
Drive off in the usual way.
Information
Under the following conditions, the HOLD function is
not
activated on vehicles with a manual
transmission:
– Clutch not pressed.
– In operating mode
N
.
– Vehicle not stationary.
– Engine stopped manually.
– On gradients of less than 5%.
– If the driver’s door is opened and the driver’s
seatbelt is not fastened.
HOLD in conjunction with PDK
The HOLD function is activated when the vehicle is
stationary.
The vehicle is held at a standstill and secured to
prevent it from rolling backward even if the brake is
not actuated.
When Adaptive Cruise Control is operating normally,
the HOLD function actively holds the vehicle at a
standstill following automatic braking.
When the vehicle is held by the HOLD function, you
can drive off in the usual way.
Information
Under the following conditions, the HOLD function is
not
activated in vehicles with PDK:
– In the
P
and
N
operating modes.
– Vehicle not stationary.
– Engine stopped manually.
– On gradients of less than 5%.
– If the driver’s door is opened and the driver’s seat
belt is not fastened.
Information
The HOLD function can be activated, irrespective of
the gradient, by quickly flooring the pressed brake
pedal while the vehicle is stationary. This keeps the
vehicle at a standstill without the brake pedal having
to be pressed continuously. A drive position change
to the selector lever position does not deactivate the
HOLD function.
WARNING
Slight rolling back on
uphill slopes
If the vehicle comes to a standstill on steep gra-
dients without the driver applying the footbrake, the
vehicle can roll back until the HOLD function stops it.
In this situation it is possible to reduce the roll-back
by applying the footbrake.
e
Assist holding of the vehicle by increasing the
braking force with the footbrake.
