Troubleshooting: Writing CD-R and CD-RW Discs
Symptom
Possible Causes

CD-RW media is not
High Speed CD-RW.
Use High-Speed CD-RW media.
These discs are stamped with a
“High Speed CD-RW” logo.
Cannot write at
12X (CD-RW).
PlexWriter 40/12/40U
drive is connected to a
USB 1.1 port.
When PlexWriter 40/12/40U is
connected to a USB 1.1 port, the
maximum drive performance is 4X
write, 4X rewrite and 6X read.
Troubleshooting: Playing Audio Discs
Symptom
Possible Causes
Solutions
Disc doesn’t
revolve; no
sound from
headphones.
USB cable not attached.
Both the AC Adapter and the USB
cable must be attached in order for
the drive to operate.
When playing
an audio CD,
you do not
hear sound
even though
everything
appears to be
functioning
normally.
Sound board volume
too low.
Mixer settings for
soundboard set too low
or muted.
Need sound board.
Sound board not
properly configured.
Each sound board has a different
setting for each input source,
including one for CD-Audio. Run your
sound board’s mixer program and
verify that the volume is turned up or
not muted. You can do this by
double-clicking on the speaker icon
on your computer’s task bar.
Check your system configuration to
see if the sound board settings (such
as IRQ, memory, etc.) are conflicting
with other devices on the system.
Check if all the necessary drivers
and multimedia devices required by
your sound board are installed.
Low sound
level from
PlexWriter
drive.
Low levels from audio
mixer.
Check the master, CD and line levels
of all audio mixers.
