Altera
®
nebuliser handset
– Read these instructions carefully to learn how to use
your Altera
®
nebuliser handset.
– Make sure you also read the
instructions for use
enclosed to the eFlow
®
rapid nebuliser system
before
first use. They include important additional information
about use of the Altera
®
nebuliser handset in particu-
lar in relation to connection, operation, cleaning and
disinfection.

Intended use
The Altera
®
nebuliser handset is intended to be used in combination
with an eFlow
®
rapid
control unit (type 178) or an eBase Controller
(type 678).
It is only for use in combination with Cayston
®
(aztreonam lysine)
for the treatment of respiratory diseases. Follow also the package
leaflet of this medicine.

Do not fill Cayston
®
in any other nebuliser handset than
Altera
®
as this will cause delivery of an incorrect dos-
age.
– The Altera
®
nebuliser is intended for use by one person
only and must not be used by more than one patient.
Patient group: 6 years and older
Nebulisation time: 2 - 3 minutes

Use of nebuliser handset
•
Clean and disinfect the nebuliser handset including the aero-
sol head according to the instructions for use enclosed to the
eFlow
®
rapid
nebuliser system before first use.

Assemble the nebuliser handset as shown in the pictures:

Open the nebuliser handset

Insert the aerosol head –
Do not touch the membrane
(metal part, CENTER) of the aerosol head!

Place the inspiratory valve

Close the nebuliser handset

Attach the mouthpiece

Mount the connection cord

Fill in the medication

Close the medication reservoir

Sit in an upright position and relax
This makes inhalation easier and improves deposition of the
medication in the respiratory tract.
Data for use of the nebuliser handset with mask are not available.

Product life time
Each pack of Cayston
®
for a treatment cycle of 28 days contains an
Altera
®
nebuliser handset. Using a new handset for each treatment
cycle ensures a precise dosage throughout the course of treatment
and makes inhalation as fast as possible.

Hygienic re-processing
The nebuliser handset (incl. aerosol head) must be cleaned imme-
diately after each use and disinfected at least once a day (see
instructions for use enclosed to the eFlow
®
rapid
nebuliser system).
