In addition to the above mentioned processing to
reproduce the Dolby Pro Logic Active or Passive
signals additional external amplifiers for the Centre
and surround signals are required. The front left and
right signals use the internal TV speakers, ideally
however, an additional external amplifier should be
used for the front left and right signals too.
As just mentioned on some models additional
amplifiers and speakers must be purchased to
produce the centre and surround channels to
reproduce the Dolby Pro Logic Surround sound.
However models using this K-Board format use the
3D Active Mode as its default sound processing
mode, this mode being used to give a wide ambience
effect enveloping the viewer in sound. Again this
processing is carried out in the Surround Decoder.
For those other models the additional amplifiers for
the C, S and Super 3D Bass are provided for on the
C-Board which will be discussed later.
The other sound modes processed in the Surround
Decoder are as follows:
:
3 Channel
In this mode only the front left, right and centre
speakers are used. The surround speakers are
switched OFF in this mode.
3 channel mode provides an increased stereo effect
over a wider area.
:
Simulated Mode
In this mode a stereo or mono audio signal can be
processed to give us different sound effects which are
used to simulate different environments such as:
:
Disco
:
Movie
:
Stadium
As mentioned previously the audio signals output
from the Surround Decoder are fed in signal pairs to
the Channel Source Select. Here the signals fed from
the Surround Decoder and the Stereo by-pass signal
are selected. The signals from this stage are then fed
via their appropriate output channel path which are
described next.

:
Stereo Mode
When a standard stereo signal is selected the left and
right audio signals are output from the channel source
select and fed via the I
2
S bus output path.
The signals are fed back to the MSP
IC2101
where
the signals under go Bass, Treble, Balance and
Volume control, before being output via pins 24 (R)
and 25 (L) of
IC2101
:
3D Active Mode
The left and right output signals again follow the same
processing path as that of the previously mentioned
Stereo signal.
:
Pro Logic Surround Sound Mode
To output Pro Logic surround sound 4 channels are
used, Left, Right, Centre and Surround. The left and
right signals are again output via the I
2
S bus output
path and fed back to the MSP
IC2101
where the
signals under Bass, Treble and Volume control.
The Centre and Surround signals however are fed via
channel 1 output of
IC2401
where again these signals
undergo Bass, Treble and Volume control before
being output via pins 24 (S) and 25 (C).
The additional Super 3D Bass which is not a Dolby
Pro Logic feature is output via the right hand scart
channel output, which is fed via pin 27.
:
Phantom Mode
In this mode no centre channel is used, instead the
centre channel is divided and added equally between
the left and right signal. These signals L/R and S then
follow the same path as that described in the Pro
Logic Surround Sound section.
:
Simulated Mode
In this mode as previously mentioned sound effects
which are used to simulate different environments are
produced. The audio output path followed being the
same as that described in the Pro Logic Surround
Sound Mode.
