3.1 Assembly
3.1.1 Above-Elbow Harness 21A19
Lock cable pre-assembly
1) Guide the upper elastic strap symmetrically from the delto-pectorial groove
on the amputated side behind the amputee’s neck symmetrically up to the
outer brim of the delto-pectorial groove on the contralateral side (fig. 1)
INFORMATION
The elastic strap contains the perlon cable with a loop. This loop is held
in its position by a split pin or artery clamp (fig. 2).
2) Open the split pin and remove the rest of the harness. Fix the perlon
cable loop again with a split pin or artery clamp.
3) Punch a hole into the leather pad for lock cable with an appropriate size
for rivet or screw connection.
4) Attach the lock cable provisionally on the front of the socket laterally of
the delto-pectorial groove. This allows to better determine the length of
the elastic strap (fig. 1)
5) Mark the strap at the level of the collar bone on the sound side (fig. 1,
item A).
6) Open the split pin or artery clamp and pull the cable on the other end to
such an extent that the loop is located at the mark level (fig. 1). Punch
a ⌀ 4 mm hole on this place. Fix the cable loop again with a split pin or
artery clamp. The strap can be reduced in length.
7) Attach the non-elastic strap for the axilla loop to the lock cable with split
pin or artery clamp.
Prehension cable pre-assembly
1) Guide the lower elastic strap through the lower axilla fold on the sound
side so as it is terminated in the area of the humerus head on the am-
putated side (fig. 3).
2) Temporarily attach the leather pad to the rear side of the socket. Insert
the cable housing into the receptacle.
3) Guide the strap up to the lower axilla fold and mark the strap there.
Shorten the strap in this position as described in section “Flexion cable”.
