Safety Instructions

 3.1

Handling Safety

➢

Always use protective wear according to your local regulations and to best industry pratices.

➢

Always use the original product packing. Repacking modules using different methods and materials may lead to

module damage or breakage.

➢

The module pallet labels contain information regarding the maximum number of modules which can be stacked,

and the number of stackable pallets. Follow them strictly. Contact your distributor for further information.

➢

PV modules are vulnerable to breakage. Handle them with appropriate care.

➢

Do not damage or scratch the PV module surfaces. Especially do not apply paint or adhesive to the surfaces.

➢

Do not use the junction boxes or cables as a grip.

➢

Do not use a single frame as module grip. Always hold the modules with both hands each grabbing a frame

part.

➢

PV  modules   with   broken   glass  cannot   be   repaired   and   must   not   be   used.  Broken  glass  could   cause   injury.

Contact with any part of broken PV modules can result in lethal shock. Broken or damaged PV modules must

be handled carefully and disposed of properly.

➢

Do not walk on the module neither use it as a support holder for people, animals or tools. The module may

only be used for the functions it has being designed

➢

Ensure that PV modules are only subjected to ambient temperatures in the range of -30 °C to + 45 °C.

 3.2

 Installation Safety

➢

When exposed to light (even under low light conditions), PV modules produce almost full voltage. Current and

power increase with light intensity.

➢

Under  operating  conditions, a PV module is  likely  to  produce  more  current and/or  voltage than reported at

Standard Test Conditions (1000 W/m2, AM 1.5 and 25 °C cell temperature). Accordingly, the values of short-

circuit current (Isc) and open-circuit voltage (Voc) given on the module label should be multiplied by a factor

of 1.25 when determining component voltage ratings, conductor current rating, fuse sizes, and size of controls

connected to the PV output.

➢

Do not install when there are strong or gusty winds, frosted roof surfaces or wet conditions. Do not install or

handle the modules when they are wet.

➢

Before installation visually inspect the module for transportation damages. Never install or expose to sunlight a

module with damaged junction box where live terminals are exposed or accessible.

➢

When installing PV modules above ground follow all applicable safety requirements to avoid possible falling or

other safety hazards.

➢

Open   Renewables

®

PV   modules   can   only   be   switched   off   by   removing   them   entirely   from   light   or   by   fully

covering   their   front   surface   with   an   opaque   material.   When   working   with   PV   modules   in   light,   follow   all

applicable regulations regarding working with live electrical equipment. Do not touch electrically live parts

while the PV module is exposed to light.

➢

Fasten the cables to the mounting structure but avoid any mechanical stress on them. Ensure that connectors

are clean and dry before connecting.

➢

Never disconnect electrical connections under load, because direct current can arc across gaps.

➢

Do not wear metallic jewellery while performing installation.

➢

There are no user serviceable parts within the module. Do not attempt to repair any part of the module.
