Termination
ISO 11898
The bus must be terminated on both ends of the line. The cables,
connectors, and termination resistors used in CAN networks must meet the
requirements defined in ISO 11898.
The following tables list the electrical characteristics of a CAN cable and of
the terminator according ISO 11898.

The maximum length of the cable depends on the transmission speed, see
table below.

* For bus lengths greater than about 1 km, a
bridge or repeater device is recommended.
The market offers cables with not only the two data signal lines, but also the
three other signal lines (CAN_GND, CAN_SHLD, CAN_V+). This enables to
connect the network power supply and shield at a central location of the CAN
network.
