When carrying out work in the electrical heating, it must
be de-energized and secured against reactivation.

System-specific / Machine-specific Safety
Information
•
The values specified in the technical data sheet of the
pump (see information in chapter 8.1) refer to the mech
anical stability of the pump.
Thus, the owner is responsible for carrying out appropri
ate tests with the used discharging media (and, if neces
sary, flushing and sealing media) to determine the per
missible operating data and ensure that no risks will
arise due to the media themselves or the operating con
ditions resulting from the use of these media.
•
Discharging, flushing, heating, and sealing media may
be harmful.
Wear corresponding protective clothing.
•
The ignition temperature of the discharging, flushing,
heating and sealing medium must be at least 50 °C
higher than the pump's operating temperature.
•
Drops of inflammable media must not reach areas in
which an ignition may take place. If necessary, place a
protective pan under the pump unit and permanently
monitor it for leaking liquid.
•
The boiling temperature of the sealing liquid must be at
least 20 °C higher than the set operating temperature of
the pump.
•
Exercise caution when filling/draining harmful and hot
media into/from the sealing chamber.
•
Due to the functional principle of the pump, pressures,
which may endanger the personnel and result in dam
age to the pump or the system, may build up at the inlet
and outlet of the pump in case of uncontrolled operation.
Therefore, pressure monitoring devices with limit
switches must be installed at the inlets and outlets. For
the permissible pressures, refer to the technical data
sheet of the pump (see information in chapter 8.1).
•
Install pressure monitoring devices with limit switches at
the heating / cooling lines of liquid-heated / cooled
pumps.
•
Observe the maximum permissible operating pressure
and the permissible operating temperature of liquid
heaters and coolers. The values are engraved into the
heating/cooling jacket.
•
For two-stage pumps of the GM series equipped with
liquid heating and cooling systems, please note as well
the additional notes (regarding permissible forces, tight
ening torques, etc.) in the drawing PB-0-5853. The
drawing is supplied with the pump but may also be ob
tained from Barmag upon request.
•
Always wear working clothes with tight fit when retight
ening the stuffing box while the drive shaft of the pump
is rotating. All rotating drive parts must be secured
against touching (e.g. by means of protective hoods).
•
Inspect discharging medium connections with regard to
the rotational direction of the pump.
Interchanging the connections may result in damage to
the pump and the system.
•
Set the external control unit, external inverter or manual
control unit of the internal inverter so that the pump
drive does not start automatically when activating the
device.
•
Operating the pump unit without a protective cover that
cannot be penetrated by splinters is prohibited.
•
Work in the area of the magnetic coupling may only be
carried out when it is depressurized.
•
The compatibility of discharging, heating, flushing, and
sealing media with the static seals - and if applicable -
shaft seals and the pump material must be ensured.
If necessary, consult the Barmag pump service regard
ing this matter.
•
All pump seals (in particular O-rings between the plates)
must be installed for operation of the pump.
•
The pump is greased by the conveyed medium. Do not
operate the pump in dry run since there is a risk of pos
sible damage to the pump and ignition of the conveyed
material due to overheating.
•
An excessive drive torque may result in damage to the
pump. (Max. permissible drive torque in the technical
data sheet of the pump; refer to information in chapter
8.1).
Protection of the pump from excessive drive torque may
e.g. achieved by installing an overload clutch.
•
Pump components may be damaged or destroyed due
to improper operation or incorrect handling of the pump.
Here, the drive shaft may be pushed out of the pump as
long as the pump is pressurized. In this case, hot liquid
may be ejected.
Always depressurize the system before working on the
pump or near it, removing protective covers, dismount
ing the shaft/clutch between gear motor and pump,
loosening the locking nut of length-adjustable articulated
shafts.
