An example of the four included tips is shown as a photo
taken from the probe ends in Figure 9. Note the CW/CCW wrap
direction is based on looking into this probe tip. Knowing
the outer conductor is the lower voltage, and using the
right-hand rule, you can infer that the CCW tip results in a
magnetic field coming
out
of the tip, and CW results in a
magnetic field coming
into
the tip.

The larger 4mm tips are more powerful and better for
manual use and insensitive targets. They generate a wide
field that is good for discovering new vulnerabilities and
they have the best chance to disrupt a circuit in some way.
The smaller 1mm tips are better for precision work, as they
generate a narrower field and can be positioned more pre-
cisely. These tips are good for characterising known faults
where location is critical, and for dealing with sensitive
targets.
The use of smaller diameter tips may require you to par-
tially decapsulate the target. In many cases this can be
accomplished with mechanical sanding/lapping/milling and
avoids the use of chemical etching. This is required as the
inserted field does not penetrate as deeply with smaller di-
ameter tips.
