Disassembly and Reassembly 4-59
Removing the System Board
To remove the system board all the processor cartridges, processor terminator
cartridges, memory board, and PCI option boards (if installed) on the system
board must be removed and all system board cable connectors tagged and
unplugged.
!
CAUTION
The system board can be extremely sensitive to ESD and
always requires careful handling. After removing it from the
system, place it component-side up on a nonconductive,
static-free surface to prevent shorting out the battery leads.
Do not slide the system board over any surface.
1.
Perform the processor cartridge and processor terminator cartridge removal
procedures described earlier in subsection
Removing/Installing Processor
Cartridges on the System Board
.
2.
Remove the memory board. The memory board is secured to the chassis by
two thumbscrews (one on each front corner of the board.) Loosen the
thumbscrews and slowly pull memory out of its bay until its edge connectors
are free. See Figure 4-58.

!
CAUTION
Observe static precautions.
3.
Place the memory board on an antistatic surface. Save the memory board for
reassembly.
4.
Tag and remove any PCI option boards installed. See subsection

an Option Board
earlier in this chapter. Save the PCI option boards for
reassembly.
