Removing the Exciter’s Battery
Remove the battery on the exciter’s exciter/control PWB (A5A1) when the
Exciter - Low Battery
alarm
appears (on the AUI or via remote digital output). Chemical leakage from an old battery can cause
damage. The battery can be removed while ac power is applied to the transmitter.
The optional exciter’s battery backup circuit will indicate an alarm when its voltage is below a pre-
determined threshold, but it is not required for transmitter operation. If the battery fails, you can
remove it without replacement. The backup battery in the controller assembly (A4) is the only backup
battery required in the transmitter.
Procedure
Perform the following steps to remove the battery:
1.
Ensure ac power is being applied to the transmitter and the controller (exciter A) is operating as
the active exciter. The optional exciter should be set as the standby exciter and be inactive (disable
automatic transfer).
2.
Remove the front filter panel by loosening the 13 quarter-turn fasteners securing the panel to the
transmitter.
3.
Remove the right-hand upper, rear filter panel by loosening the 16 quarter-turn fasteners securing
the panel to the transmitter.
4.
Disconnect all interconnecting cables on the rear of the exciter and slide the exciter (A5) forward
enough to allow removal of its top cover. See
the exciter/control PWB’s battery.
5.
Gain access to the battery by removing the exciter’s top cover.
6.
Remove the battery in XBT1 on the exciter/control PWB (A1); do not replace it.
7.
Re-install the exciter’s top cover and slide the exciter in place. Reconnect all interconnect cables
removed in
8.
Re-install the front and rear filter panels removed in
9.
Check for any alarms on the front panel UI or the remote AUI (see
). Battery related alarms should clear.
NOTE
: It is not necessary to reset the time after removing the exciter’s battery. The controller will
synchronize the time setting.
