The ‘DIAL’ column of keys are used to enter and execute dialing
functions, such as direct dialing, speed dialing, directory maintenance
and call termination.
Function Keys
Pressing the keys marked F1, F2, F3 or F4 will cause the corresponding
relays to close in the far end
FieldFone II
or
StudioFone
. Pressing and
releasing the keys quickly will close the relay for about ½ second. Pressing
and holding the key will cause the far end relay to close until the key is
released.
Keypad Beeper
FieldFone II
incorporates a beeper that will beep each time a key is
pressed. In some applications, it may be desirable to turn the beeper
off. This is done using the keypad sequence:
<Setup><Beep>.
FieldFone II Configuration
Refer to Appendix A for a diagram of the
FieldFone II
menu tree
showing all commands required for operation.
The
FieldFone II
, as shipped from the factory, will attempt to connect
at 33.6 kb/s operation. A connection at 33.6 kb/s is preferable, as this
allows
FieldFone II
to deliver the widest possible frequency response.
Unfortunately, “clean” POTS lines are not a certainty, and
FieldFone II
will “fall back” to lower bit rates when less-than-ideal lines are
encountered. We have found that special ‘conditioned’ lines do
not
provide any advantage, and in some instances, result in poorer connect
rates. Please note that when connecting to a
FieldFone
or early model
StudioFone
, the maximum possible connect rate is 28.8 kb/s.
Using Automatic Bit Rate Selection
The
FieldFone II
automatic bit rate selection feature assures the best
possible connection under any line condition. By setting the bit rate to
’33.6’, the
FieldFone II
will always try to establish the best connection
possible, at bit rates of 33.6, 31.2, 28.8, 26.4, 24.0, 21.6, 19.2, 16.8 and 14.4
kb/s, in this order. You can set the maximum bit rate to try using the
command sequence:
<Operation><Bit Rate>.
Selecting a maximum bit rate lower than 33.6 kb/s will yield faster call
setup times in areas where the telephone system does not support these
