level return audio is also located on the rear panel. All output levels
are fixed at 0 dBu relative to nominal input levles.
Using the Sound Shaper Feature
At the high levels of bit rate reduction used to send quality audio over
ordinary phone lines, it is sometimes useful to adjust the audio
bandwidth and encoder bit allocation for the type of audio program
being transmitted.
FieldFone II
’s unique Sound Shaper feature gives
you the ability to optimize the sound of the
FieldFone II
for your most
frequently used type of audio. We have shipped your
FieldFone II
preset for most audio formats; however, we encourage you to
experiment with the Sound-Shaper setting. To access the Sound Shaper
settings, use the command sequence:
<Operation><Snd Shaper>
and select one of the five factory settings.
Phone Line Connection
Connection to the phone line is made through a standard RJ-11
connector on the rear panel. Only the two center connectors (tip/ring,
or red/green) are active, therefore either two or four wire modular
phone cables can be used. These cables are available virtually
anywhere in a variety of lengths. A standard telephone set can also be
connected to the rear panel for normal phone conversations over the
same line when the
FieldFone II
is not being used. Do not use
conditioned or equalized lines, and avoid using lines that are shared
with other devices or that run through a PBX or CENTREX system.
