5.2 Connecting audio sources

Each input channel provides a jack (18) for the
connection of a microphone or mono audio
source with line signal level (e . g . mono output
of a mixer) . The jack is balanced . If the output
of the audio source is balanced as well, use an
XLR plug or a 3-pole 6 .3 mm plug for connec-
tion . For an unbalanced output, use a 2-pole
6 .3 mm  plug .

When a microphone is connected, turn

the control GAIN (20) of the respective channel
towards “MIC”; when an audio source with
line signal level is connected, turn the control
towards “LINE” . If required, readjust the set-
ting during operation (

 chapter 6, item 4) .

Phantom power supply:

To activate the 24 V phantom power supply for
a channel (e . g . when a condenser microphone
is connected), engage the appropriate button
PHANTOM POWER (19) . To deactivate the
phantom power supply, disengage the button .

ATTENTION

1 .  Only actuate the button when the amplifier

is switched off (switching noise) .

2 .  Only activate the phantom power supply

when a phantom-powered audio source
is connected; audio sources not designed
for phantom power supply (e . g . micro-
phone with unbalanced output) may be
damaged .

5.3 Defining the priority

The DIP switches PRIORITY (16) can be used to
assign different priorities to the channels CH 1,
CH 2 and CH 3 . The volume of a channel with
a lower priority will be attenuated as soon as
a signal is available on a channel with a higher
priority . Signals of channels with the same pri-
ority will have no effect on each other . Use the
table (fig . 9) to set the desired priority order
of the channels .

Use the control MUTE (17) to define the

level of volume attenuation (left stop = min .
attenuation, right stop = max . attenuation) .

5.4 Connecting the muting switch

To mute the amplifier, connect a switch (nor-
mally open contact) to the terminals EXT . PRIO .
(15) .

5.5 Power supply and

emergency power supply

1)  To ensure continued operation of the

amplifier after a mains failure, connect the
terminals DC INPUT (13) to an emergency
power supply unit (

 24 V),  e . g .  the  emer-

gency power supply unit PA-24ESP from
MONACOR .

Notes:

1 .   When

24 V is available at the terminals DC

INPUT, the amplifier will be in operation even
when the button POWER (9) is disengaged, i . e .
in case of a mains failure, the button POWER
will have no effect . When both the emergency
power supply and the mains power supply are
available, the button POWER will switch bet-
ween these two power supplies .

2 .  With emergency power supply, the amplifier

will provide less power than with mains power
supply .

2)  Finally, first connect the mains cable pro-

vided to the mains jack (10) and then to a
mains socket (230 V/ 50 Hz) .

6  Setting the Amplifier into

Operation

WARNING

Never operate the unit without
the protective cover (12) . Risk of
electric shock when touching the
speaker terminals!

To prevent switching noise, always switch on
the units connected before switching on the
power amplifier of the PA system and switch
off the power amplifier before switching off
the units connected .
1)  To prevent a volume which is too high, turn

the total volume control MASTER (8) to “0”
before switching on the unit for the first
time .

2)  Use the button POWER (9) to switch on the

amplifier . The power indicator ON (5) will
light up .

3)  Turn up the control MASTER so that the

subsequent settings can be heard well via
the speakers .

4)  Use the mixing controls CH 1 to CH 3 (6) to

adjust the desired volume for each chan-
nel . Turn the controls of unused channels
to “0” .

When a mixing control must be turned

back very far (sound too loud or distorted)
or turned up very far (sound too low), re-
adjust the input sensitivity with the control
GAIN (20) of the respective channel accor-
dingly .

5)  Use the control MASTER to adjust the vo-

lume desired for the PA system . The output
level is indicated by the LED chain OUTPUT
LEVEL (2) .

In case of overloads, indicated by the

LED CLIP (3), turn back the control MAS-
TER and / or the mixing controls of individual
channels accordingly .

CAUTION

Never adjust the amplifier to a
very high volume . Permanent
high volumes may damage
your hearing!

Your ear will get accustomed to high vol-
umes which do not seem to be that high
after some time . Therefore, do not further
increase a high volume after getting used
to it .

6)  Use the controls TREBLE and BASS (7) to

adjust the sound . Then readjust the volume,
if required .

7)  When the LED PROT (4) lights up during

operation (brief lighting up during switch-on
and switch-off does not indicate an error),
the amplifier is overheated .

When a protective circuit is activated, switch
off the PA system and then identify and elimi-
nate the error (e . g . overload, short circuit at
the speaker output, overheating due to insuf-
ficient cooling) .
