Safe Driving
Brake Pad Wear Indicator Lamp
The brake pad wear indicator lamp in
the instrum ent cluster com es on
when the key in the steering lock is
turned to position “ 2 ” and it m ust go
out when the engine is running. If the
indicator lamp lights up during brak
ing, this shows that the fro n t wheel
brake pads are worn.
Have the brake system checked at an
authorized MERCEDES-BENZ dealer
as soon as possible.
Brake Fluid
Brake fluid should be changed once a
year, preferably in spring.
Only use brake fluid recom m ended by
us. For further inform ation, refer to
,,Fuels, Coolants, Lubricants, e tc .” .
The low brake fluid indicator lamp will
come on if insufficient brake fluid is in
the reservoir. (The key m ust be in
steering lock position ” 2 ” , and the
parking brake released.)
When the minimum mark on the
reservoir is reached, have the system
checked (brake lining thickness,
leaks).
Charge Indicator Lamp
Should the charge indicator lamp fail
to com e on prior to starting when the
key is in steering lock position
“ 2 "
or
should it fail to go o u t after starting or
during operation, th is indicates a fault
w hich m ust be repaired at an au th o r
ized MERCEDES-BENZ dealer as
soon as possible.
When the charging indicator lamp
glow s w hile the engine is running, the
V -belts may be lose or broken (which
makes the w ater pump inoperative).
This may cause overheating and dam
age to the engine. In this case the
V -belt m ust be tightened o r replaced
at once.
Fuel Reserve Warning Lamp
The fuel reserve warning lamp will
com e on when the key in the steering
lo ck is turned to position ” 2 ” , and will
go out after the engine is running.
If the warning lamp stays on after the
engine starts, or com es on while
driving, it indicates that the fuel level
is down to the reserve quantity.
Outside Temperature Indicator
The tem perature sensor is attached
to the fro n t bum per behind the
license plate base plate. Due to its
location, the sensor can be affected
by road o r engine heat during idling or
slow driving. This means that the
accuracy of the displayed tem pera
ture can only be verified by com pari
son to a therm om eter located next to
the sensor, not by com parison to
external displays (i.e., bank signs,
etc.).
Oil Pressure Gauge
The oil pressure at idle speed may
d ro p to 0.3 bar/4.4 psi if the engine is
at operating tem perature. This will not
jeopardize its operational reliability.
Pressure must, however, rise
im m ediately upon acceleration.
The oil pressure gauge will not
provide early warning of low oil level.
Therefore, check oil level at regular
intervals w ith the dipstick.
