Supplemental Restraint System
The em ergency tensioning retractors
are designed to activate only during
severe frontal impacts. They tighten
the belts in such a way that they fit
more snugly against the body re s tric t­
ing as much as possible its forward
movement.
In cases of less severe frontal
im pacts, such as roll-overs, side or
rear collisions, or o ther accidents
w ith o u t severe frontal forces, the
em ergency tensioning re tra cto rs will
not be activated. The driver and pas­
sengers will then be p ro te cte d by the
fastened seat belts and inertia reel in
the usual manner.
Warning!
Rear seat passengers should always
wear seat belts — fo r th e ir own p ro ­
te ctio n and to avoid endangering the
driver and fro n t passenger w ith their
unrestricted forward movement.
No seat belt can be used fo r more
than one person. Children under the
age of six or under the w eight of
23 kg/50 lb should be seated in the
back seat with an approved restraint
system properly secured.
Child restraint system s recom ­
m ended by us can be fastened to the
existing seat belts. Any authorized
MERCEDES-BENZ dealer will gladly
advise you on this subject.
