Despite the modern production methods, because of the sheer complexity of the
technology there may be rare cases of individual or multiple pixel drop-outs (dead
pixels).
For active matrix TFTs with a resolution of 480 x 234 pixels, which are each made
up of three sub-pixels (red, green, blue), there are a total of approx. 336,960 million
control elements in use. Due to this very high number of transistors and the associated
extremely complex manufacturing processes used, occasionally one or more pixels can
fail or become incorrectly controlled.
The table on the next page describes the maximum number of pixel failures allowed
on the screen without a warranty claim arising. A warranty claim can be made in some
cases if the above number of defects in a category is exceeded.
