BRUSHLESS 41/2" ANGLE GRINDER
• RPM OF THE ACCESSORY MUST EXCEED TOOL RPM. Use
accessories rated at 11,000 RPM or higher.
• Never mount a cut off wheel, router cutter or drill bit on
Grinder.
• Do not lock, tape or wire the "on/off" safety lever in the
"on" position, as the lever must be free to return to the "off"
position when released.
• Daily measure the Grinder speed with a tachometer to make
sure its not greater than the RPM marked on the grinding wheel .
NEVER USE A GRINDING WHEEL MARKED WITH A HIGHER
SPEED LOWER THAN THE GRINDER SPEED.
• Always use the required wheel guard to prevent injury from
broken grinding wheel parts . If a guard has withstood a wheel
breakage, discontinue its use and replace it with a new guard,
as it could be damaged . Position the guard between the grinding
wheel and the operator . Use barriers to protect others from wheel
fragments and grinding sparks .
• Failure to heed these warnings may result in personal injury and/
or property damage .
Service
• Tool service must be performed only by the MATCO authorized
service centers listed . Service or maintenance performed by
unqualified personnel may result in a risk of injury . Repair by
unqualified personnel, use of unauthorized parts, and failure to
follow maintenance instructions may create a risk of shock or
injury .

SPECIFIC SAFETY RULES

• Hold tool by insulated gripping surfaces when performing an
operation where the accessories may contact hidden wiring .
Contact with a “live” wire will also make exposed metal parts of
the tool “live” and shock the operator .
• Be aware that this tool is always in operating condition, because it
does not have to be plugged into an electrical outlet .
• Always be sure you have firm footing .
• Be sure no one is below when using the tool in high locations .
• Hold the tool firmly and use both hands .
• Do not leave the tool running . Do not force tool to stay in the “on”
position . Operate the tool only when hand-held .
• Some material contains chemicals which may be toxic . Take
caution to prevent working dust inhalation and skin contact . Follow

OPERATING INSTRUCTION
Installing Or Removing Battery Pack
1 . Your new battery pack is not fully charged . You may need to
charge before use .
2 . Make sure the forward/reverse lever is in the neutral position
when installing or removing a battery .
3 . To remove a battery, depress the front tab and pull the
battery forward and the tool in the opposite direction .
4 . To install a battery align the tool with the battery, place the
front of the tool about halfway up the battery, push forward
until click is heard indicating full installment .
Charging The Battery Pack
1 . Battery may not charge when it is above a certain preset
temperature limit . Allow temperature of battery to cool before
charging .
2 . The charge process will take less than one hour .
3 . After charging, unplug the charger from the power source
and stow away in a safe place .
Tool Operation and Maintenance Instructions
Correct grinding wheel mounting is necessary to prevent injury
from broken wheels . Do not use chipped or cracked grinding
wheels . Grinding wheels should be a free fit on the spindle to
prevent stress at the hole . Use only wheel collars that come
with the Grinder for mounting the griding wheel . Flat washers
or other adapters may over stress the wheel . Always use heavy
paper blotter discs between the wheel collar and the grinding
wheel . Tighten the wheel on the spindle to prevent spin off
when the Grinder is turned off .

How to use MCL2040LB with 20V

BRUSHLESS Matco tools will function normally when
using the MCL2040LB battery . Since the connection styles
are different it is required to utilize the adapter MCL20BADP .
Connect the adapter to the BRUSHLESS tool then slide the
MCL2040LB battery in place until a click is heard and the
release buttons locks into place .
FAQ
Question:
Can I use the adapter (MCL20BADP) connected to the
MCL2040LB battery and charge it on the MCLCHRG6?
Answer:
No . The adapter does not have the proper circuitry
to allow it to be used to charge the battery . To charge the
MCL2040LB remove the adapter and utilize the MCLCHRG5 or
MCL1840CHRG .
