Carefully read through the Operating Instructions before starting any work!
This particularly applies to the General Safety Instructions section
and the safety instructions in the various chapters.
Topping up the coolant
Only top up the coolant with the engine cooled
down.
S
If, under exceptional circumstances, the
coolant level has
to be checked with the en
gine at operating temperature, carefully turn the
cap
1
to the first detent position - drain pres
sure - then open it carefully.
S
When topping up do not add cold coolant to an
engine that is still hot after operation.
S
Ensure that the correct "water - antifreeze" mix
ing ratio is restored.
S
The engine cooling system must be filled with a
mixture of potable mains water and antifreeze
based on ethylene glycol/corrosion inhibitor.
S
Screw the cap
1
as far as the stop but do not
tighten it.
Overtightened caps can not be opened again.
If the cooling system is opened when the engine is
at operating temperature, there will be pressure
loss in the cooling system.
On continuing engine operation, this may lead to
the engine monitoring system MMDS triggering the
“Pressure in expansion tank" alarm. The con
sequence of this alarm is a reduction in engine
power.
After opening the cap, the warm engine can only
be operated again without an alarm if there is an
initial pressure of 0.7 bar in the cooling system.
To achieve this, a pressure valve
1
is mounted on
the expansion tank, allowing a commercially avail
able air pump to be connected. This must be used
to increase the system pressure to 0.7 bar.
