Get Ready—129
To Turn Off—Wakesetters & M Series
To turn OFF the engine, press the Start/
Stop button and hold for approximately one
(1) second. If the backup key switch was used
to start the boat, ensure that the power but-
ton is off and then turn the key to OFF. Failing
to verify that the power button is off means
the electrical system will continue to function
and the engine will continue to run. Note that,
unlike a dry-land vehicle, turning OFF the boat does NOT immedi-
ately stop its momentum. The boat will continue to move. Shifting to
neutral will slow progress, but allowance must be made for contin-
ued movement. See information following for suggestions regarding
docking. The power button is a safety measure. It allows the operator
an opportunity to briefly and visually check the eletrical system op-
eration prior to starting. The key also reduces the likelihood of boat
theft or unauthorized use. Always remove and take the key when the
outing is done.
Starting the Engine – Response TXi
Step 1: Be certain the boat’s shifter/throttle is fully upright in the
neutral position. Additional information follows regarding
shifting and throttle response.
Step 2: Perform the pre-start routine, including the bilge inspection
and engine compartment inspection. (Details are provided
in the How It Works section.) Leave the engine compartment
open for the starting process.
Step 3: Attach the emergency safety switch tether/lanyard (shown
above) to the switch on the shifter side of the panel, and
also to a piece of the operator’s clothing.
Step 4: Press the power button or turn the key switch to ON and
ensure that the display powers up. The Response TXi boats
have an InfoCenter between the gauges, and the Response
TXi Malibu Open has a 7” display. After the screen boots, the
blower should automatically start and run for four (4) min-
utes. Allow the blower to run with the engine compartment
open and the boat in the water.
Step 5: After the blower has run for several minutes, turn the key to
START. Hold the key in the START position for approximately
one (1) second and then release the hold on the key. It will
automatically return to the ON position. The engine start-
er should engage and begin the process that will allow the
engine to run. If for some reason the engine does not start,
repeat Steps 4 and 5. Never hold the key in the START posi-
tion for an extended period. If the engine does not start as it
should, refer to the
Troubleshooting section at the conclusion
of this manual for assistance in determining the cause. If any
alarms sound or warning lights appear, turn OFF the engine
and troubleshoot.
Some models are equipped with a START/STOP button, while oth-
ers are controlled from the ignition switch. The following are the
instructions for the boats equipped with the ignition slot only, and
instructions will follow for those with a START/STOP button.
Ignition Switch ONLY
(Response Base Model)
Step 5: Turn the key first to ON. Check that power to the electrical
system appears by way of the gauge sweep.
Step 6: If the electrical system has responded, turn the key to START.
Hold the key in the START position for approximately one
second and then release the hold on the key. It will au-
tomatically return to the ON position. The engine starter
should engage and begin the process that will allow the
engine to run. If for some reason, the engine does not start,
repeat Steps 5 and 6. Never hold the key in the START po-
sition for an extended period. If the engine does not start
as it should, refer to the Troubleshooting section at the
conclusion of this manual for assistance in determining the
cause. If any alarms sound or warning lights appear, turn
OFF the engine and troubleshoot.

button
(Response TXi Malibu Open)
Step 5: Begin a check of the system to make sure all components
are functioing as intended. After the blower turns off, press
the START/STOP button and enter the Start Code on the 7”
display.
The default is 1-2-3-4, but boat owners can change
this by following directions provided in the
Dashes and Vid-
eo Screens section of this manual.
If using the key switch
to power on the dash, be aware that a safety feature will
be enabled that turns the navigation and anchor lights on.
Step 6: If the Start Code was entered successfully, press and hold
the START/STOP button for approximately one (1) second
and then release. The engine starter should engage and
begin the process that will allow the engine to run. If for
some reason the engine does not start, repeat Steps 5 and
6. Never press the button for an extended period. If the
engine does not start as it should, make sure the throttle/
shifter is in neutral. If it still does not start, then refer to
the
Troubleshooting section at the conclusion of this man-
ual for assistance in determining the cause. If any alarms
sound or warning lights appear, turn OFF the engine and
troubleshoot. There is also a back-up ignition key on the
starboard shifter panel, next to the breaker panel. Start
this as you would a land-based vehicle.
For Both Types of Starting Systems
Step 7: Allow the engine to run for several minutes with the engine
compartment open. It is extremely important for any ac-
cumulated fumes to be vented in this way. It also assures
that any new issues that arise involving the engine, fuel
system and ventilation system are noted. Accumulation of
fumes within the engine compartment can also lead to an
explosion.
