Sharpening the saw chain
Sharpen the saw chain when:
•
M e a l y s a w d u s t i s p r o d u c e d w h e n d a m p w o o d i s c u t ;
•
The chain penetrates the wood with difficulty, even
w h e n h e a v y p r e s s u r e i s a p p l i e d ;
•
T h e c u t t i n g e d g e i s o b v i o u s l y d a m a g e d ;
•
T h e s a w p u l l s t o t h e l e f t o r r i g h t i n t h e w o o d .

Two or three strokes with a file are usually sufficient for
r o u t i n e r e s h a r p e n i n g . W h e n t h e s a w c h a i n h a s b e e n

a u t h o r i z e d s e r v i c e c e n t e r .
Sharpening criteria:

File and file guiding
— Use a special round file (optional accessory) for
s a w c h a i n s t o s h a r p e n t h e c h a i n . N o r m a l r o u n d
files are not suitable.
— Diameter of the round file for each saw chain is as

— The file should only engage the cutter on the for

ward stroke. Lift the file off the cutter on the return
s t r o k e .
— Sharpen the shortest cutter first. Then the length

o t h e r c u t t e r s o n t h e s a w c h a i n .
— Guide the file as shown in the figure.
