Keep your hands away from revolving parts, in
particular from the router bits or from the underside
of the base plate while the machine is running (risk
of injury!).
³
A uniform feedrate when cutting increases the life
of the drill bits and the machine and ensures good
cutting results. When working on edges with bigger
router bits the feed direction of the machine should
always be against the rotation of the router bit.
³
After switching off, the machine should only be put
aside if the router bit has come to a standstill or
loosen and lock again the clamping for the auto-
matic upward clearance.
³
The router bits must be replaced in good time as
blunt router bits do not only increase the risk of
kickback, but also impose an unnecessary load on
the motor. The router bits have to be clamped cor-
rectly.
³
The sawdust created by cutting makes it difficult to
see as clearly as necessary and can be damaging
to health in certain circumstances. If not working
outdoors or on well ventilated premises, therefore,
the machine must be connected to an extractor
unit such as a small portable dust extractor when
operating for long periods. The air velocity must be
at least 20 m/sec. (65.6 ft/sec.)

Regular cleaning of the machine is an important
safety factor. Before beginning this task, pull out
the mains plug.
³
Only original MAFELL spare parts and accessories
must be used. Otherwise the manufacturer does not
offer any warranty and does not accept any liability.

Setting up / Adjusting
3.1
Mains connection
The router LO 50 E has Class II protective insulation
(double-insulated).
Before starting up, make sure that the mains voltage
matches the voltage stated on the rating plate.
The machine should be switched off prior to
being plugged in.
3.2
Chip and dust extraction
(see ill. 1)
The chips produced while cutting as well as harmful
dust generated by certain materials can be collected
and removed by the chip collector 64 which can be
connected to any type of vacuum cleaner or external
extractor unit. The chip deflector is made of transpa-
rent material to keep the sight clear on the router bit.
The chip collector is placed on the base plate and
fixed in the bayonet-type fitting.
3.3
Mounting and removing router bits
(see ill. 1)
When placing the machine on the motor cover it is
easier to change the router bit.
The LO 50 E is supplied with a precision collet
having a diameter of 8 mm / 5/16 in. (
∅
¼” for CH/
GB version) as standard accessory. This collet will
accept router bits with the same shaft diameter.
Mounting router bits

Place the properly cleaned shaft of the router bit
as deep as possible inside the open collet 76.
³
Pressing the lock bolt 58 into one of the holes
provided for this purpose on the cutter spindle 1
will hold the cutter spindle in position.
³
Tighten the collet by turning the collet nut 77 clo-
ckwise, first by hand and then by means of the
open-ended spanner 19 mm (SW 19).
Removing router bits

Hold the cutter spindle in position by pressing
the lock bolt into one of the holes provided.

Loosen the collet nut by turning the open-ended
spanner 19 mm (SW 19) counter-clockwise. Conti-
nue to turn the collet nut until a little resistance is
felt again. When this resistance has been over-
come the router bit can be removed from the collet.
German TRGS 553 «wood dust» requires
the use of tested extraction devices.
When using other equipment, industrial
users must ascertain any special require-
ments by consulting the relevant liability
insurance association.
The router will remain within the technical
guideline value for wood dust concentra-
tion (2 mg/m³) only if connected to a tes-
ted extractor unit.
Pull out the mains plug before
changing the router bits.
Never tighten the collet nut when
there is no shaft or no shaft of the
right diameter inside the collet as this
may damage the collet.
