Riding with a passenger on board is different than riding
alone. The operator has the benefit of knowing what will
be the next maneuver and is able to prepare himself ac-
cordingly. The operator also benefits from the support of
his grip on the handlebar. In contrast, the passenger
has to rely on the operator’s careful and safe operation
of the vehicle. In addition, “body english” is limited with a
passenger, and the operator can sometimes see more
of the trail ahead than the passenger. Therefore,
smooth starting and stopping are required with a pas-
senger, and the operator must slow down. The operator
must also warn the passenger about side hills, bumps,
branches, etc. An unforeseen bump can leave you
