Chapter 3 Configuring Ports and Channels Using the Console

Configuring the Ports

Table 3-5 provides the line status alarm descriptions for the E3 mode on the
3-Port DS3/E3 ATM Protection module. This alarm is displayed in the Line
Status field on the Protection 3-Port E3 ATM Configuration and the E3 Port
and Channel Configuration windows.

Indicates that the interface for the port is not con-

Indicates that the interface has not yet been
brought into service, or in-service interface has

OutOfService

Indicates that a loss-of-signal condition exists due
to any one of the following problems:

•

The module port is not physically connected to
a cable.

•

The cable is not connected at the other end to a
device.

•

The cable is broken.

A loss of frame or encoding is due to a problem
with the framing or encoding of the signal. For
example, a repeater could corrupt the signal.

InService

Indicates that the port is physically connected to
a cable; the cable is conducting the signal; and the
signal is being transmitted and received correctly.
