Configuring Audio Delay
The calculations for video delay and audio delay are not difficult. An example for ATSC video is
given.
AERO.2000 audio processing/loudness control latency is 180 ms. AERO.2000 Dolby Digital
encoding latency is 64 ms. AERO.2000 total latency for processing and Dolby encoding is 244
ms.
•
A video frame is 33.36 ms. 244ms/33.36ms = 7.31 frames.
•
8 frames is the nearest whole frame so viedo delay should be set for 266.88 ms.
•
To make the Dolby Digital output audio latency match this value of video delay some
additional delay of the Dolby Digital output is required.
o
Subtract the processing latency plus Dolby encoding delay from the total video
delay:
o
266.88 – 244 = 22.88ms.
o
An additional Dolby Digital delay of 22.88 ms will match the Dolby output to the
video output. 22 ms is a good approximation.
o
A lip sync test can be used to fine tune the value if necessary.
