Description
3.1.1
Main module MSI 4xx
The main module MSI 4xx is the CPU of the whole system, in
which all signals are monitored and logically processed
according to the configuration saved on the removable
storage MSI-SD-CARD. The module provides save inputs
and outputs, as well as test signal outputs. As a result of
processing the outputs of the system are switched. The
internal safety bus serves as a data interface.
The removable storage MSI-SD-CARD has to be ordered
separately.
Attention:
Commonly available SD cards cannot be used/inserted in
MSI 4xx modules.
The main module has a mini-USB-bus with the following
functions:
Transmission of the configuration of MSI.designer to the
MSI-SD-CARD
Read configuration of MSI-SD-CARD in MSI.designer
Diagnosis of MSI 400 system with MSI.designer
Online monitoring of MSI 400 system
The base modules MSI 420 and MSI 430 are equipped with
an RJ45 socket with the same functions that are possible
via the USB interface. Additional diagnosis of MSI 400
system via connected SPS
Attention: there can only be one connection to MSI.designer
at the same time (mini-USB or RJ45).
The main module MSI 4xx has four test signal outputs
T1 …T4.
WARNING
Short circuit detection
MSI 4xx detects short circuits between the two
test-outputs T1… T4, if the duration of the test
pulses is < 4 ms.
If the duration of the test pulses is ≥ 4 ms, short
circuits between the test-outputs may remain
undetected.

3.2.1
Indicator Power / Error code (PWR/EC)
PWR/EC-LED
Description
☼
red blinking (1 Hz)
An error has occurred in the
controller. All 24 V outputs are
switched. The control system
must be restarted with a power-
on reset, after correcting the
cause of the error
☼
green blinking (1 Hz)
The power supply to A1, B1 or
B2 is outside the range of
16.8 V to 30 V.
green
The power supply to A1, B1,
and B2 is within the range of
16.8 V to 30 V.
3.2.2
Indicator Modul State (MS)
MS-LED
Description
☼
red blinking (1 Hz)
No project on the keypad or
project data incorrectly (for
example: number of inserted
IO-modules does not match the
project)
☼
green blinking (1 Hz)
Project data taken from
IO-modules; waiting for start
command

☼
red / green blinking
One or more inputs have a ca-
ble break or short-circuit at
24 V.
Or there is a sequence/
synchronous time error at a
two-channel input.
Or an output has a test error
(e.g. short-circuit).
3.2.3
Indicator configuration (CV)-LEDs
Code Verified-LED (CV)
Description
☼
yellow blinking (1 Hz)
Project on controller not
verified.
Controller does not start
automatically after Power-On
Reset.

Project on controller is verified.
Controller starts automatically
after Power-On Reset.
3.2.4
Indicator Ethernet-(NET) LED (only MSI 420 /
MSI 430)
Ethernet connection
Description
☼
green blinking (2 Hz)
While connecting the LED is
blinking for 3 sec.
3.2.5
Indicator Input LEDs
Input-LED
Description
☼
Green flashing (1 Hz)
A single-channel input has a
test error (cable break or short-
circuit at 24 V) or the input was
not configured in the project
and 24 V is pending.
☼
Green flashing, alter-
nating or synchronous
(1 Hz)
Two-channel input has syn-
chronous time error or a se-
quencing error or at least one
of the two inputs has a test er-
ror (cable break or short-circuit
at 24 V)
○
