CUTTING PERFORMANCE TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE
The information contained in this guide provides for troubleshooting the LaBounty shear only. Any references
to the base machine will be made only to give some guidance as to where a problem may exist. Any specifi c
maintenance and/or troubleshooting information will need to be provided by the original equipment manufac-
turer of the base machine or the authorized dealer. If a question arises regarding the operation or maintenance
of the attachment, contact a LaBounty dealer for proper procedure.
SYMPTOM
PROBABLE CAUSE
REMEDY
1. Upper shear will not move
a. No hydraulic fl uid to the shear
cylinder
b. Broken hydraulic swivel (if rotator)
i. Check for hydraulic fl ow at the hydraulic lines to
the manifold.
ii. Check base machine hydraulic circuit.
i. Replace swivel and fl ush hydraulic circuit.
2. Cutting speed is extremely
slow
a.Base machine oil supply (fl ow) is
too low
b. Hydraulic cylinder seal bypass
c. Hydraulic lines are kinked
d. Hydraulic swivel seal bypass
i. Check the fl ow to the attachment and compare
with the recommended fl ow (see hydraulic letter
for attachment).
ii. Check for excessive back pressure.
iii. Check base machine’s hydraulic system.
i. Check for cylinder seal bypass; replace seals if
necessary.
i. Check hydraulic lines; replace any damaged
lines
i. Check for seal bypass (consult your dealer ser-
vice department for instructions). Install new seal
kit if necessary.
3. Upper shear moves too
rapidly
a.Hydraulic fl ow to shear is exces-
sively high
i. Reduce fl ow to attachment
NOTE
The attachment may be damaged if fl ow exceeds
the recommended GPM.
4. Upper shear drifts open or
closed
a. Machine hydraulic valve is open
center type
b.Machine control valve is faulty
c. Hydraulic cylinder seal bypass
d. Hydraulic swivel bypass (if rota-
tor)
i. Check hydraulic circuit to verify. Replace with
closed center spool type.
ii. Refer to machine maintenance manual
- check for sticky spool
- check for circuit relief valve bypass
- check for spool seal bypass (if applicable)
i. Check for seal bypass; replace seals if needed
i. Check swivel for bypass; replace seals if
needed
