FIG. 34
Testing the thermocouple:
-- Obtain a volt /ohm meter and set the meter to the
continuity scale.
-- Place the probes at both ends of the thermocouple.
-- The meter should exhibit readings of approximately 1
ohm or less. A reading showing high resistance or an
overload condition indicates a defective thermocouple.
Pilot Light Assembly
1. Remove the pilot shield, exposing the pilot bracket,
pilot ori
fi
ce, and thermocouple. See Fig. 35, Classic
115 shown.
FIG. 35
2. Using a soft brush or compressed air, clean the pilot of
dust and dirt, paying attention to the the
fl
ame spreader
at the top of the stack.
3. Blow off the top of the pilot ori
fi
ce to clean out as much
dirt as possible.
4. Servicing the pilot ori
fi
ce:
-- Remove the pilot tube from the inlet of the pilot
ori
fi
ce See Fig. 35.
-- Remove the pilot ori
fi
ce from the pilot bracket.
-- Hold the ori
fi
ce up to the light to see if the holes
in the ori
fi
ce are open. If not, clean with air or
replace.
-- See Fig. 36 for comparison. Ensure the proper
pilot ori
fi
ce is installed for the fuel being used.
(Note the number stamped on the
fl
at of the ori
fi
ce
hex to identify if LP or NG.)
FIG. 36
5. When lit after cleaning, the pilot
fl
ame should impinge
on the upper half of the thermocouple. The
fl
ame
should not be wavy, noisy, or lazy. See Fig. 37.
FIG. 37
Classic 115:
Ensure the pilot gasket is located as shown in Fig. 38,
and is not torn. A missing or damaged gasket will cause
a pilot outage to occur when the blower motor is operat-
ing. Ensure the gasket is properly positioned on the
burner before after servicing the pilot or at reassembly
of the pilot assembly.
