2.17.1 Outline of tappet

The tappet converts cam rotation into linear
reciprocating motion.

2.17.2 Structure of tappet

The tappet receives the push rod with an push rod
seat.

(1) Tappet

2.17.3 Function of tappet

The tappet converts cam rotation into linear
reciprocating motion.
Receives cam force on the surface.
Further, the cam and tappet are set with centers slightly
offset and the tappet rotates while the engine is running
so uneven wear does not readily occur.

2.18 Push rod

2.18.1 Outline of push rod

The push rod transfers tappet movement to the rocker
arm.

2.18.2 Structure of push rod

The push rod is mounted so as to contact the tappet
and rocker arm.
