Required Tools and Supplies
Required Tools and Supplies
The following tools are required to perform the maintenance procedures
described in this chapter:
•
Compressed air
•
Foam swabs
•
Replenisher in a spray bottle
•
Wrist grounding strap.
Periodic Maintenance
Periodic maintenance consists of the following procedures:
•
Cleaning the printhead
•
Cleaning the air filter
•
Replacing the mist and fluid filters.
Cleaning the Printhead
The printhead may be cleaned at any time during printer operations when
the printed output shows signs of deteriorating quality after a printhead
clean. To correct a problem that does not respond to normal cleaning,
apply the following guidelines:
•
With the printer in ready, clean the eyelid seal
•
If the problem persists, swab the printhead after doing a shutdown
(see “Identifying Print Defects” in Chapter 3).
Caution: The only time the printhead should be swabbed is when it exhibits severe
raggedness or crooked jets that do not disappear after one or two clean
cycles.
For cleaning, the printer can be in either of the following states:
•
Shutdown, with or without eyelid removed
•
Running in Normal Up State 12 (crossflush).
Caution: Always perform a printhead clean before swabbing. Press CLEAN
PRINTHEAD to run the clean cycle and then power down the fluid
system.
