Chapter 11 and 12: Night-time operation and Economy mode - DIN-contact an ECO-contact
11. Night-time operation
TOPAX DX allows you to reduce use of Chlorine during night-
time and/or after the closure of the SPA baths and pools. For
this “economy operation mode” two timers must be defined.
To automatically start the night-time mode, adjust these timers
and assign them to the individual weekdays. These settings can
be made in the “service - timers menu “. The desired value,
which you need to reduce, can be adjusted in the main “night-
time” menu. Moreover it is possible to reduce the capacity of
the recirculation system. Adjust the parameters of the controller,
based on the default settings for reduced recirculation power.
Afterwards the night-time mode can be started. This can happen
automatically when the timer is activated or when the night-time
is directly switched on.
A second possibility is the activation of the night-time by an ex-
ternal contact. This contact switches the night-time “ON” and
“OFF” independently from the settings in the menu.
The night-time command is effective also for flocking.
12 Economy mode - DIN-contact and ECO-con-
tact
For the “economy mode” a DIN - contact is defined. The DIN
contact is generally used for the reduction of the recirculation
capacity. According to the DIN 19643, SPA baths and pools must
follow and adhere to all hygiene auxiliary parameters. The ac-
tive charcoal and the flocculation central dosage can be subse-
quently turned off.
Parameter
DIN-Contact
Free chlorine
Minimum 0.30 and adjustable maximum between
0,60 and 1,0 mg/l
(adjustable, as the DIN Standards 19643 do not
clearly indicate the upper limit value)
pH value
pH value 6,5 – pH7,6
REDOX:
> 700 mVs
Bonded chlorine
< 0,0 mg/l
For all measuring outputs the hysteresis must be known. The
DIN contact is closed when all the measured values are in the
adjusted range.
WARNING!
If no total chlorine was measured and thus no bon-
ded chlorine was determined, the contact can be
used when bonded chlorine is proven to be within
the DIN range by means of photometric analysis.
In the economy mode there are two variants:
12.1. Fully TOPAX-controlled economy mode
In the configuration menu “DIN - contact” is set to “ECO - con-
trol”. If this mode is switched on, the following functions are ac-
tivated :
Save the “ECO - control” and enter the following menu to select
the type of contact (relay or optocoupler). This contact is called
“ECO - contact”. The DIN values are internally compared. If all
DIN values are respected, the ECO-contact is set as “ECO-de-
fault mode” and will be activated every time when the night-time
mode or timer is manually switched on. Use the “night-time”
menu to reduce the recirculation capacity the lowered default
value of the measurement “free chlorine”. If you enter this lowest
value as a percentage figure, all controller parameters will be
adjusted accordingly to this lower percentage. Reduction rate up
to 50% are admissible.
When set on night-time reduced operation mode (see chapter
16, menu .4 “night mode”), the “Night-time operation” contact
must be externally set to provide a feedback confirming that the
recirculation capacity was actually reduced. The economy mode
is effective only when a confirmation is given. Lack of compliance
to DIN - parameters at the time of switching to night-time saving
mode, will activate ongoing comparative timer check-up and the
ECO–contact will be actually active as soon as the DIN-param-
eters are in place.
12.2. TOPAX-DX controlled DIN-contact only
Should the DIN-contact be switched on from outside, the in-
strument will process the contact in the system but in this case
TOPAX will not be responsible for the performance. The „Night-
time operation“ menu will have to be reset as well as the recir-
culation capacity.
