Chapter 7: Control outputs
7. Control outputs
7.1 Actuator
Depending on the type of actuator different start-up function can
be configured as for example switching outputs and continuous
outputs (0/4-0mA). The switching outputs can be switched as
electronics outputs or relay outputs.
7.1.1 Electronics output (Optocoupler output)
Pulse frequency output for the control of our magnet metering
pumps MAGDOS or our motor pump MEMDOS with intelligent
electronics control (correct polarity is to be respected).
7.1.2 Relay output
Pulse frequency output, pulse length output, output (for servo
engines) 3-point- stepped or ON/OFF for the control of magnet
metering pumps, hose pumps or single solenoid valves.
7.1.3 Power output 0/4-20 mA
Current output 0/4...0 mA
Max. load: 500 Ohm
7.2 Type of outputs
The type of output is to be configured. In the menu “service
– type of output” special parameters can be adjusted for each
output type. For the automatic controllers the following correcting
variable outputs are adjustable:
7.2.1 ON/OFF
Relay output - if the adjusted value are excessive the relay
switches. The hysteresis is adjustable.
7.2.2 Pulse length
10...10 seconds of cycle time,
Relay output (e.g. for single solenoid valves).
According to the offset and the adjusted control parameters the
relay is not tightened or dropped over the adjusted cycle time e.g.
during a cycle time of 30 seconds and an automatic controller
power output of 40% the relay is tightened for 1 seconds and
not tightened for 18 seconds.
7.2.3 Pulse frequency
10...00 pulses per minute, relay output and electronics output
(preferably electronics output)
The pulse frequency depends on the offset and the adjusted con-
trol parameters, i.e. with an automatic controller power output of
e.g. with Y = 5% and a pulse frequency of 100 Imp./min the
automatic controller would spend 5 Imp./min.
7.2.4 3-point incremental output for servo motors with/
without position feedback
Relay output (e.g. for chlorine gas valve C7700) for servo en-
gines with feedback position can be attached to an acknowl-
edging potentiometer (value 1... 10 kOhm). The acknowledging
potentiometer is to be adjusted. With the alignment the servo
actuator is first operated. The tension, which lines up over the
acknowledging potentiometer, is indicated in the position of the
potentiometers (tension announcement between 0 and 3 V). After
reaching the end position the servo actuator is automatically op-
erated. The alignment is accomplished and is to be stored in the
TOPAX DX. The switching hysteresis is adjustable from 1-0 %.
A servo actuator without feedback can also be operated. This is
to be selected with the configuration. If no positional feedback is
available, measure and adjust the motor life in the „Service menu
– Ausgänge [outputs]“.
WARNING!!
Entering a wrong motor life may prevent accurate
controller functioning in which case you would recei-
ve no warranty coverage by the manufacturer. The
motor cycle time is set by the factory at 120 seconds
which corresponds to the cycle time of the motor of
the chlorine gas valve C7700.
7.2.5 Stepless controller output (20 mA-power output))
For automatic controllers a continuous control output of 0/4 - 0
mA can be configured for the control of continuous actuators.
Based on the offset, the power is between 0 and 0 mA.
It can be selected between:
• 0...0 mA,
• 4... 0 mA,
• 0... 0 mA and
• 0... 4 mA
7.3 Output limit
The output of each automatic controller can be limited in its up-
per value. For this reason, you must enter the maximum propor-
tional value of the actuators.
Example: a value of 80% operates the automatic controller to
a maximum of 80 %. The algorithm of the automatic control is
however computed further on 100%. It is to be noted that the
automatic controller parameters are selected accordingly. The
smallest adjustable value for the maximum limit is 50%.
This limit is useful for example if you are running a very large
chlorine regulator valve and you want to ensure a sensible regu-
lation.
