GENERAL DESCRIPTION

GUIDE TO CUTLERY AND ACCESSORIES:
• The ideal material for cutlery and
accessories in a microwave oven is
transparent to microwaves, allowing the
energy to pass through and heat the food.
• Microwaves cannot pass through metal,
so metal cutlery, metal containers and
plates with metal decorations cannot
be used.
• Avoid using products made from recycled
paper for cooking food in the microwave,
as these may contain small fragments of
metal that may cause sparks and fires.
• It is recommended to use round or oval
plates rather than square or rectangular
ones, as the food in the corners has a
tendency to overcook.
• Narrow strips of aluminium foil can be
used to prevent overcooking of exposed
areas. However, be careful not to use too
much, and ensure that you maintain a
distance of 2.5 cm between the foil and
the inner wall of the oven.
• Browning dish – Follow the manufacturer’s
instructions. The bottom of the browning
dish must be at least 5 mm above the
turntable. Incorrect usage may cause
the turntable to break.
• Dinnerware – Microwave-safe only.
Follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
Do not use cracked or chipped dishes.
• Glass jars – Always remove the lid. Use
only to heat food until just warm. Most
glass jars are not heat-resistant and
may break.
• Glassware – Only heat-resistant
glassware that can be used in an oven.
Make sure there is no metallic trim. Do
not use cracked or chipped dishes.
• Oven bags – Follow the manufacturer’s
instructions. Do not close with a metal tie.
Make slits to allow steam to escape.
• Paper plates and paper cups – Use for
short–term cooking/warming only. Do not
leave the oven unattended while cooking.
• Paper towels – Can be used to cover food
for reheating and absorbing fat. Use only
under supervision for quick warming.
• Greaseproof paper – Can be used to
cover food to prevent splattering or as
a cover when steaming food.
• Plastic – Microwave-safe only. Follow the
manufacturer’s instructions. Must be
labelled ”Microwave-safe”. Some plastic
containers soften when the food gets hot.
“Boiling bags” and tightly closed plastic
bags should be pierced or vented as
directed by package.
• Plastic wrap – Microwave-safe only.
Can be used to cover food during cooking
to retain moisture. Do not allow plastic
wrap to touch food.
• Thermometers – Microwave-safe only
(meat and confectionery thermometers).
• Wax paper – Can be used as cover food to
prevent splattering or to retain moisture.
