4. Install a new hard disk drive:
a. Ensure the tray handle is open (that is, perpendicular to the drive).
b. Align the drive-tray assembly with the guide rails in the bay.
c. Gently push the drive-tray assembly into the bay until the drive connects to
the backplane.
d. Push the tray handle down until it locks.
5. Check the hard disk drive status indicators to verify that the hard disk drive is
operating properly.

When the amber light is on continuously, the drive has failed.

The green activity light flashes when there is activity on the drive.

1. Review the information in“Before you begin” on page 67 and in “Safety and
environmental notices” on page 173.
2. Power off the engine and then remove the cover and bezel. (See “Removing
the cover and bezel” on page 70.)
3. If the drive that you are replacing is a laser product, observe the following
safety precaution.
