The Load Balancing service is used for clustering the Accessories servers and is not necessary for
a single machine. If you try to start Interviewer Server Administration and your URL changes to
http://server1/... then you know that the Load Balancing service is running.
Improving stability when running IBM SPSS Data Collection Interviewer Server
Administration off-line
If you have installed any of the IBM SPSS Data Collection Server applications for off-line use
you may
fi
nd that installing the Microsoft Loopback Adapter improves stability when running
off-line. When you install the Loopback Adapter, it becomes the
fi
rst connection in the binding
order that determines the order in which connections are accessed by DNS. If you regularly
connect to a LAN and only occasionally run IBM® SPSS® Data Collection Interviewer Server
Administration off-line, you may wish to move the Loopback Adapter below your regular LAN
connection in the binding order.
Installing the Microsoft Loopback Adapter on Windows XP and Windows 2003/2008

From the Control Panel, go to Add Hardware. This starts the Add Hardware wizard.

On the Welcome page, click
Next

On the Is the hardware connected? page, choose
Yes, I have already connected the hardware
and
then click
Next
.

On the next page, scroll to the end of the hardware list and select
Add a new hardware device
.
Then click
Next
.

On the next page, select
Install the hardware that I manually select from a list (Advanced)
and then
click
Next
.

The next page displays a list of common hardware types. Select
Network Adapters
. Then click
Next
.

On the Select Network Adapter page, select
Microsoft Loopback Adapter
. Then click
Next
.

Click
Next
to start the installation procedure.
Changing the binding order of the network adapters

From the Control Panel, go to Network Connections (or right-click the Network icon on your
desktop and choose
Properties
). This opens the Network Connections window.

Choose:
Advanced > Advanced Settings

This opens the Advanced Settings dialog box. The Loopback Adapter you have just installed
should be highlighted in the Connections frame.

Click the green down-arrow next to this frame to move the adapter at least one place down. Your
default Local Area Connection will be at the top of the list again.
