Installing or Removing Internal Drives
Before you begin:
Read the “Laser Safety Information” on page xvi.
Read “Safety Considerations” on page 4-2 and “Handling Static Sensitive
Devices” on page 4-3.
Read the manual that came with the internal drive for instructions on setting
switches, jumpers, and device terminators.
If you are installing a 3.5-inch drive in bay 3, make sure you have the
optional 3.5-inch drive mounting brackets.
Use the System Management Services or your operating system to record
the addresses of the existing drives in your system unit before beginning this
procedure. You must choose SCSI addresses for the any new drives which
do not conflict with addresses of drives already installed.
Remove the system unit cover (see “Removing the Cover” on page 4-4).
1. Determine the location for the drive you want to install. If there is a drive already
installed in that bay, these instructions direct you to remove the existing drive
before installing the new drive.
2. Touch the static-protective package to any unpainted metal surface on the
system unit, then remove the drive from the package.
3. Using the instructions that came with the drive, check that any switches or
jumpers on the drive are set correctly.
