Working with Drives in Bays 1, 2, 3, or 4
This section provides instructions for two different mechanical drive cage designs
that contain bays 1 through 4. One drive cage is removable, and the other is not.
Because the procedure for installing and removing drives is different for each
design, both designs are explained below to help you identify which one you have.
Removable Drive Cage
Computers with the removable drive cage have a support bracket and screw
that secure the front drive cage. If the drive support bracket is present, you
must remove the drive cage before installing or removing drives (see
“Removable Drive Cage Instructions”). The following illustration shows a
computer with a removable drive cage.

Non-Removable Drive Cage
If your computer does not have the drive support bracket (as shown in the
preceding illustration), your computer has a non-removable drive cage.
This drive cage is permanently fixed to the computer, and drives are installed or
removed through the front of the computer. See “Non-Removable Drive Cage
Instructions” on page 49.
Removable Drive Cage Instructions
The following instructions are for computers that have a removable drive cage for
bays 1 through 4. To determine if your computer has this type of drive cage, see
“Working with Drives in Bays 1, 2, 3, or 4.”
