Installing a Model 4xx Chassis with a Hard Drive

1. Remove power from the IBM 2212 by unplugging the power cord.

2. Remove the IBM 2212 cover, using the instructions in “Removing the Cover” on

page  2-4.

3. Remove from the top of the blower the 2 screws that attach the blower to the

chassis. Depending on the blower model, the blower may have a wired
connector on one screw. Remove the screw and washer from the connector.
Lift out the screws and washers, and set aside.

4. Lift out the blower and set it on top of the power supply.

5. Connect the hard drive IDE (flat ribbon) cable to the backplane. Route the hard

drive cable so it lies flat under the blower. (See Figure 2-17.)

6. Reinstall the blower to the chassis with the screws and washers.
