With SMP, application programs can distribute the processing load between the
microprocessors. This enhances performance for database and point-of-sale
applications, integrated manufacturing solutions, and other applications.
v The following illustration shows the microprocessor sockets and the voltage
regulator module (VRM) slots on the system board.

v If you install a second microprocessor in the server, microprocessor 1 is installed
in microprocessor socket 1 (U16), and microprocessor 2 is installed in socket 2
(U32).
You must also install the following items that come with the second
microprocessor:
– Voltage regulator module (VRM), which you plug into VRM connector J25
– Cooling fan, which you plug into fan position 4 (see the following illustration
for the location to plug in fan 4)
