pes, nuts and bolts suitable for the respective flange are to be used. For
sealing purposes, a suitable seal is to be provided (not included in the
scope of delivery from Reed). Care must be taken to ensure the correct
mounting position. Maximum deviation from plumb lines: ±30°. In the
case of installation openings that are smaller than the diameter of the
float, the float must be disassembled prior to the mounting of the switch.
The position of the float limit stop must be marked prior to the float being
disassembled. For float switches in an explosion-proof design, the PTFE
washer must be placed back onto the adjusting ring. If the floats are not
marked, the mounting position must be accordingly marked (e.g. «abo-
ve»). After the float switch is mounted, the float must be positioned on the
inside of the tank again (pay attention to the mounting position!).
The float limit stops must then be reattached at the marked locations. The
number of floats and the number of float limit stops depend on the dimen-
sions and the number of switch points. The minimum bending radius of a
flexible float switch is 85 mm.
5. Electrical connection
The electrical connection must be in line with the regulations applicable
in the country of destination and must only be realised by correspondingly
trained specialist personnel.
The electrical connection must be made in accordance with the type plate
attached to the socket or the type label attached to the cable.
For devices with a socket, the cable is fed through the cable gland and
then sealed; the socket is sealed tight again with the cover.
6. Electrical connection in EX zone
Please proceed as described under point 5 «Electrical connection» and
point 3 «Application in EX zone». In addition, it must be ensured that the
earthing terminal in the socket or the earthing wires of the connection ca-
ble is/are connected to the potential equalisation system to prevent metal
parts from becoming electrostatically charged.
7. Initial operation/functional check
Switch on the supply voltage for the control device connected, fill the con-
tainer and check that the switching points of the float switch are functio-
ning correctly. If the device is dismounted, the functional check can also
be performed manually by moving the float. Care must be taken to ensure
