Lambda sensor removal
- Disconnect the connector (1).
- Unscrew the Lambda sensor (2) from the exhaust manifold.
Coil / Stick-Coil removal and spark plug test
- Remove the filter box as described in the relevant paragraph.
- Disconnect the connectors (1) and (2) from the coils/stick coils (3) and (4).
- Lift the coils/stick coils (3) and (4) to remove them from the cylinder head.
Spark plug electrodes gap shall be 0,6 mm ± 0,1 mm (0,024 in. ± 0,004
in)
.
A wider gap may cause difficulties in starting the engine and overload the coil.
A gap that is too narrow may cause difficulties when accelerating, when idling
or poor performance at low speed.
Clean off any dirt around spark plug base before removing the spark plug.
- Unscrew the spark plugs using the special spanner to remove them from the
cylinder head.
It is very useful to examine the state of the spark plug just after it has been
removed from the engine since the scale deposits on the plug and the colour of
the insulator provide useful indications.
Correct heat rating: the tip of the insulator should be dry and the colour should
be light brown or grey.
High heat rating: in this case, the insulator tip is dry and covered with dark
deposits.
Low heat rating: in this case, the spark plug has overheated and insulator tip is
vitrified (glazed), white or grey in colour.
When reassembling, place the coil/stick coil (4) with the white rim
on the external right-hand part of the engine and connect it using
the connector (2) with the white ring to the cable.
If the position of the two coils/stick coils or the connectors is in-
verted, the engine will run erratically.
