GENERAL ENGINE PROCEDURES

Workshop Manual Ed.09-2012

Flywheel and starter motor idle gear removal

-  Remove the right crankcase and fix the engine at the top dead centre, as 

described in the relevant paragraphs.

-  Heat the flywheel hub (1) to a temperature of approx. 100°C.

-  Unscrew the nut (2) and washer (3).

-  Remove the flywheel together with the freewheel (4) using a suitable puller.

Removal/installation of the freewheel from/on the flywheel 

-  Heat the freewheel to about 120°C.

-  Undo the screws (1), remove the flange (2) and freewheel (3).

Installation:

-  Check the condition of the freewheel (3), and replace it if it is ruined.

-  Install the freewheel (3) onto the flywheel with the mark (4) facing the flywheel.

-  Fit the flange (2).

-  Replace the screws (1) with pre-lubricated screws and tighten to torque or 

use Loctite 648.
