Routine Maintenance Guide
1.1 Maintenance Precautions
To ensure normal operation of the device, read the following precautions before performing
maintenance.
1.1.1 Basic Maintenance Requirements
Requirements on maintenance personnel
The personnel who are responsible for installing and maintaining Huawei devices must be
strictly trained to get familiar with the proper operation methods and safety precautions before
device installation, operation, or maintenance.

Only the qualified and trained personnel are allowed to install, operate or maintain the
device. Pay attention to the following points when installing, operating, or maintaining
the EDFA.

Do not look directly into the laser port without eye protection.
–
Wear electrostatic discharge (ESD) gloves or an ESD wrist strap.
–
Ensure that each port is installed with the fiber or the dust-proof cap.
–
Do not clean end faces with the laser on.
–
Properly use the fiber end-face inspector and cleaning tools.
–
Do not disconnect the ground cable or touch the device without protection.
–
Gently turn on or turn off the PUMP switch.

Only the personnel authenticated or authorized by Huawei are allowed to replace or
change Huawei devices or parts (including software).
3.
The operating personnel must immediately report the faults or errors that may cause
safety problems to the person in charge.

Do not look directly into the optical port without eye protection when the device is
running, to protect your eyes against laser.
l
Wear ESD gloves or an ESD wrist strap before operating the device and remove any
electrically conductive accessories (such as jewels or watch) to avoid electric shock or
injury.
