30 Phone Basics
1.5 Getting Around Your Phone
There are different ways to navigate around the Home screen, menus and
application screens on your phone.
Touch
When you want to type using the on-screen keyboard, select items on-screen such as
application and settings icons, or press on-screen buttons, simply touch them with
your finger.
Swipe or slide
To swipe or slide means to quickly drag your finger vertically or horizontally across
the screen. The following are some instances when you would use swiping:
Opening the Extended Home screen
Swipe your finger left or right on the screen to open the Extended Home
screen. For more information, see “Home Screen” in this chapter.
Scrolling
To scroll up or down in a list or page on the screen, swipe your finger up or
down on the screen. With repeated short, quick brushing gestures, you can
accelerate the scroll. Touch the screen to stop the scrolling.
Drag
Touch and hold your finger with some pressure before you start to drag. While
dragging, do not release your finger until you have reached the target position.
The following are some instances when you would use dragging:
Moving or deleting a Home screen item
First, touch and hold an application icon, widget, or folder on the Home
screen. When the item magnifies and the phone vibrates, drag your finger to
any part of the screen to move the item, or drag to the
Trash
button to delete
